Convening a week early for Memorial Day, the Stanley-Boyd School Board met at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library to take a tour of the upper elementary remodel, paid for with savings from Fund 46.
Traveling from the high school and down the hallway and through a plastic construction barrier, the tour arrived at the open concept elementary first built in the 1970s, with walls put in after said concept led to student distraction.
Now under remodel, prep work has already been done, the work said to be a week ahead of schedule, being turned over to the contractor on May 1. With hallways to be polished concrete once finished, the cooling unit is already in, with a new electrical panel still awaiting install.
Still a work in progress, the largely open space was shown to have metal wall studs in place and electrical conduit partially run, with some wall locations chalked on the floor and windows turned bookshelves revealed on the east side. Having reviewed the work thus far, the board returned to the high school library.
Come the June 17 Board Conversation, the board will have self-assigned summer homework, a new book enttitled “Great on their behalf: Why School Boards Fail, how yours can become effective” by Airick Journey Crabill on the reading list--discovered, it was made known, at a school board convention.
