Semi rollover Monday west of Boyd

Driver transported with injuries

A semi rollover west of Boyd saw traffic back up Monday at mile marker 94, with an ambulance leaving the scene headed westbound.
The accident took place around 3:45 p.m. and involved a white semi cab with orange trailer rolled over at mile marker 94 west of Boyd, adjacent to 290th Street.
“I heard a bang and came out and there it was,” an eyewitness who declined to give their name said from 290th Street on Monday afternoon. Another witness nearby on trails at the time did not see but heard the crash, which was loud.
A check with Stanley Police didn’t yield much additional information.
“That was handled by the Sheriff’s Department,” Sergeant Adam Kuechenmeister from Stanley Police said when contacted about the rollover. “The Boyd officer was there.” The crash report was still in progress at contact time, an ambulance from Boyd-Edson-Delmar seen leaving the scene.
“The driver was injured,” Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Chief Ron Patten said of the crash. “He was transported to Mayo Health in Eau Claire.”
Patten said the semi was headed westbound prior to the crash, went down through median and then across lanes of traffic to end in the south ditch. A medical issue was believed to be involved in the crash.
“It’s very fortunate that we didn’t have other cars involved,” Patten said.
The semi lay in the south ditch of Highway 29, with traffic backed up substantially towards Cadott as officials worked on scene.
Agencies assisting at the crash site Monday included the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, State Patrol, Stanley Police and Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire and Ambulance. A water tanker truck with Boyd-Edson-Delmar Fire Department was seen exiting the highway at Boyd after the patient transport.
Viewed from the south side of 290th after patient transport, the semi trailer showed a convex roof shape with punctures, the semi cab having its windshield and hood removed, exposing the engine.
