Janelle Schesel takes second in girls 5000-meter run
Cross country head coach Kyle Steenport had some thoughts to share on how things went after the Stanley-Boyd Invite last week.
“I was content with our showing on Thursday,” he said. “Our top three boys ran hard and posted times that were much better than last year’s Stanley Invite. Breckin Burzynski had a great run and looked strong all throughout. Zach Haas and Lukas Milas also cut some time off since our last meet. A second place finish was well deserved,” he said of the boy’s team’s over- all finish. Stanley-Boyd took 80 team points at the September 8 home invite, with an average in the 5000-meter of 20:35 for the boys.
As for the girls, Steenport said that, “Janelle Schesel had a decent showing. She placed second with a time of 23:26. Ady Gustafson showed a ton of improvement compared to last year as well. Our middle school girls placed second as a team and missed the first place spot by one point. Even though it’s early in the season, our runners have shown a lot of growth and I’m excited to see that continue Tuesday at Neillsville.”
The girls team had an average run time of 27:12.30 in the 5000-meter finals, fielding four runners overall.
The Orioles girls next compete September 16 at River’s Edge, while the boys head to Whispering Pines September 20, along with the girls.
