Do you know how to play spoons musically?
Jim Cruise does. Known as the Spoon Man and making round 2 of America’s Got Talent, the Michigan resident has been playing the spoons for 35 years, with 25 of those as a professional. Married with five kids, Cruise will be at the D. R. Moon Memorial Library July 10, from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Equipped with nothing more than two ordinary household tablespoons and some background music, Cruise is known for doing audience sing-along competitions, as well as educational messages blended into the show.
Based out of West Michigan, Cruise has performed all over the United States, including Alaska, and has also been to Moscow Russia. He travels more than 70,000 miles a year for work and has even written a book, entitled “Spoon Boy,” and is contemplating another called “Driving with a Purpose.
Famous personalities for which he has performed include former President Gerald Ford, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Mr. Rogers.
