The Red Cross collected 48 units of blood at the Stanley-Boyd Community Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, October 15, with a goal of 45. The goal was lowered due to a shortage of Red Cross staff. There were 45 donors who came in, 38 whole blood units, 2 deferrals, and 5 power red units for the total of 48 units. Also included were 3 no shows, approximately eleven cancellations, and five walk-ins who filled empty slots and came back to donate. This exceeded the goal by three and came at a time of an emergency blood shortage. Those assisting with this drive were Our Savior's Lutheran Church, who allowed the use of their facility, FFA Alumni who donate string cheese for every blood drive, volunteers from Stanley Lions Club and Partners With OLVH, other site volunteers, the baker, volunteers who called donors, and all the donors who took their time to come in.
The next Stanley-Boyd Community Red Cross Blood Drive is December 23 at the Boyd Elementary School gym, 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. If you would like to make an appointment for this drive, please call Donella Christianson at 715-644-3638. Other confirmed upcoming drives are Monday, March 7, 2022, and Thursday, June 2, 2022. Mark your calendar for these dates to donate blood.
