The Stanley-Boyd FFA Chapter was named the state winning Food Science & Technology Career Development Event Team. Team members include Seth Zastrow, Grace Schmidt, Kira Lato, Allison Sayles, Lucy Wundrow, and Jake Gundlach. Their advisor is Jordan Donnerbauer. Additionally, the top individual for this event was Sydney Gundlach.
The Food Science & Technology Career Development Event requires students to have an in-depth understanding of food product development, food presentation, and food safety issues. Participants also use their sensory skills to solve problems and make sound decisions.
Advisor Jordan Donnerbauer shared additional results from the State competition.
“Our Parliamentary Procedure Team competed, made finals, and placed fourth in the State of Wisconsin,” he said. “Team members include Seth Zastrow, Grace Schmidt, Kira Lato, Allison Sayles, Lucy Wundrow, and Jake Gundlach. The Parliamentary Procedure LDE builds leadership and increases the knowledge of proper parliamentary procedure. The parliamentary procedure team, consisting of six members, have eleven minutes to demonstrate “parliamentary abilities” while discussing the topic given to them by the judges. The team is then asked questions testing their knowledge of parliamentary procedure.”
Stanley-Boyd will now represent Wisconsin FFA in competition at the National FFA Career Development Events to be held in October in Indianapolis, Indiana during the 98th National FFA Convention. The Food Science & Technology Career Development Event is sponsored on the state level by Jake and Tolea Peissig, JTP Farms, Dorchester WI. The National sponsors are Bunge, Hormel Foods, Kerry and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association.
By exposing students to issues in food science and technology, students gain experience that prepares them for traditional and non-traditional careers. All Career Development Events engage students in developing their communication, decision-making, and teamwork skills to promote future career success.
