Stanley Fire Department to undertake 9/11 Stair Climb to honor bravery of New York firefighters

As the twentieth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks approach – es this September 11, the men and women of the Stanley Fire Depart –

ment are planning to honor their fall –

en comrades, with area resident's help. As most rushed down the stairs at the World Trade Center towers (the elevators had been disabled by fire), the firefighters of New York City rushed up, with the re –

sult that 343 lost their lives when the tow –

ers collapsed a short time later. Now, the time has come to remember.

"Please join us in supporting the 343 firefighters and other first responders who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on 9/11/01," a public appeal by the depart –

ment reads.

With a portion of the proceeds to ben – efit the Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the Stanley Fire Department will be at Oriole Park on Saturday, September 11 at 8 a.m. to climb the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center.
