Unexpected sad news to report from the Stanley Sportsman’s Club. “Big Boy”, our popular whitetail buck at Chapman Deer Park, recently died. Thus far, no one can understand what caused his death. Samples were obtained to send to the State lab for testing.
Time passes quickly. It’s hard to believe, Big Boy would have been 12 years old this spring. Converting deer years to human years, Big Boy would have been over 80 years old. In other words, he was an old man.
Statistics indicate deer live longer in captivity. Most captive whitetail buck’s lives do not exceed 15 years. One thing for sure, Big Boy provided entertainment for many people. Vehicles would drive by the deer park for close observation of this large bodied, majestic looking buck, always sporting a beautiful set of antlers.
Having his most recent antler sheds in possession, chances are the sportsman’s club will have a taxidermist create a shoulder mount in remembrance of Big Boy. Upon completion, Big Boy would be on display at Oemig’s Sports Shop for all to admire.
