We are in the early stages of March, and the Thorp Area R/C Club is starting to look forward to spring and summer! The Marshall RC Park is going to be available again this year, and has TONS to offer the area! And there’s never been a better time to get into the RC Hobby, be it airplanes, cars, trucks, drones, helicopters, boats, or WHAT it is! There is more available at better prices than ever before!
I’ll be working on getting fliers out to the local area through the schools and whatever businesses will allow us to put up posters. If you plan to be flying anything, please remember to get your Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Membership in order and have your AMA Number for the club roster. There has been more and tighter law passed by the FCC and FAA regarding the RC Hobby, mostly relating to flying items. Being in the club helps tremendously on this front, and being an AMA Member does even MORE to help! The club has RC Flight instruction available, complete with the plane and everything. All you have to do is show up!
We also have to remember that we have plenty of other spaces for other things, too! There’s a beautiful asphalt oval for racing! There is room to make an off-road course! There is a pond for boats! This past few months I’ve learned about a particular boat racing option that is fairly affordable and easy to get into, which could become a racing event. We can get into combat with the rc planes, too! There are also events all spring, summer and fall, all over our area to attend! There is even another local RC racing track that holds regular events, too!
There will be a Spring Meeting on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. for the RC Club, and all are welcome to attend! It will be hosted by Keith Marshall, and more details will be available through the club’s Facebook page. Come on out to the meeting and you can learn more about what we have available and where we can take this! Let’s have some FUN this summer! I look forward to seeing you there!
