Coming ou meets at Colby and Cadott, Coach Bob Seidl shared some thoughts on how things were going for the Stanley-Boyd track and field team.
“This has been a challenging track season,” he said. “The weather hasn’t cooperated but now we are seeing improvements in times and distance. At Cadott we needed to assess our strengths in events for Conference.”
With Fall Creek the dominant team for the year, Stanley-Boyd showed it could be competitive, with Carson Hause jumping 6 feet in the high jump for a personal record, while Cooper Nichols and Zach Boes had both jumped 12 feet in the pole vault Friday at Cadott, going first and second. Seidl voiced hopes for a repeat on Tuesday May 26 at home, while Nic Schmelzer had placed fourth in the 110-meter and third in the 300-meter long hurdles.
“He is improving more than anyone on the boys team,” Seidl said. “We also placed well enough in the relays to place 2nd as a team at Cadott. We will go after individual events and hope are best performances come Tuesday night.”
As to the girl’s team, things had been a bit more challenging.
“It’s been more challenging for the girls,” Seidl said of this year’s track season. “With only 16 girls in track it’s tough to be competitive against a team like Fall creek with 40. Still we have bright spots that shine through at each meet. Distance runners Schesel and Derks are very competitive and are improving each meet.” Also managing to put together a “strong” 4 x 800 team close to the school record, Addison Mahr won the 300-meter hurdles on Friday in a personal record and will compete for the top spot.
“We still believe we can place in the top three at conference,” Seidl said of the outlook moving forward. “Look for some surprises as we mix it up.”
The conference meet is home.
