Seven games, seven wins. That’s the situation the Oriole girls varsity softball team finds itself in this year. Undefeated so far, the team has racked up wins against Elk Mound Mounder (9-0), Palmyra Eagles (6-4), Manawa Wolves (4-3), Owen-Withee Blackhawks (26-0), Colfax Vikings (13-6), Black River Falls Tigers (12-1), and Mondovi Buffaloes (10-0).
Orioles Head Coach Kim Goettl shared some of what is behind the team’s rapid advance, as well as chances for improvement.
“Our pitching and defense again was very strong,” Goettl said. “We continue to be aggressive on bases. We need to lower the amount of strikeouts on offense.”
AS for team stats this year, Caitlen Ketterhagen has a 0.571 batting average this year, including three doubles among seven hits. Also a pitcher, Ketterhagen has thrown thrown first pitch strikes to 71 batters thus far.
Also in highlights, infielder Dannea Wundrow has 2.013 for on base plus slugging (OPS) this year, while Bailey Sikora leads the Orioles with 38 total fielding chances this year.
Now undefeated, the Orioles look to build on their winning streak this Thursday, April 17 in a home game against Augusta at Stanley-Boyd. Game start time is 4:30 p.m.
