9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday, September 16

One day, four planes, and a lot of people dead—both in the sky and on the ground. With 9/11 coinciding with the number for U.S. emergency response, the day was a watershed event, for police, fire, civilians and military alike.

Soon, there will be a chance to remember. Taking place Saturday September 16 at Oriole Park and beginning at 8 a.m., the Stanley Fire Department will be hosting its 3rd annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to commemorate those who died, including firefighters who rushed up the stairs to put out the high rise fire, before the buildings collapsed. Stanley Fire Chief Korey Hagenson shared more on the event and why the date was moved this year.

“We wanted to be after the big climb in Green Bay,” he said.

With no charge to make the climb, the Stanley Fire Deparment is asking for donations to the Fallen Firefighter Foundation.

“We are not charging anything to do the climb but we will be asking for donations to the fallen firefighter foundation,” Hagenson said. “We are not planning anything big just going to have 9/11 base music playing in the back ground. We are starting the climb at 08:00. It’s not a race to see who can be done first. It’s about the climb and remembering the fallen.”
