Stanley-Boyd Junior Macie LaGrander has taken the lead as this week's Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week for her exceptional performance in track. LaGrander showcased her dedication and hard work in a standout way, posting impressive career-best performances in both the long jump and the 60-meter dash at the track meet held on March 21 at UW-Stevens Point. Stanley-Boyd Track Coach Braxton Thompson praised LaGrander’s impressive performance at the recent track meet as she shattered her personal best in the long jump by a significant margin.
“Her previous best in the Long Jump was 15' 11", but Friday, she jumped a lifetime best of 16' 8.75". This put her one foot under the school record, which I believe is something she can beat. Macie also ran a lifetime best in the 60M Dash with a time of 8.48. Two very strong showings for a returning varsity athlete,” Thompson commented. He added, “Keep an eye out for her as she's had an amazing start to her junior season.”
LaGrander, who started her track career in middle school, has always had a passion for sprinting and jumping. This love for the sport has only grown over the years, and it’s clear from her recent performances that her hard work and dedication are paying off. Sharing her favorite aspect of track, LaGrander mentioned, “I really enjoy spending time with my friends and meeting other athletes along with competing."
LaGrander participates in several events for the track team, including the 100 and 200-meter dash, relays, and the long jump. "One of my best moments was when my 4x200 meter relay team set the new school record!" she recalled with pride. Additionally, LaGrander has won events in both the long jump and as part of her relay team.
LaGrander’s dedication to offseason training has clearly paid off, setting the stage for what looks to be a fantastic junior season. As a returning varsity athlete, she has already set the bar high for herself and her team this season. With such a strong start, it’s clear that the best is yet to come for this talented athlete. Her hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have made her an impressive Stanley- Boyd Athlete of the Week!
