Seventh-grader Peyton Hugh has been selected as this week’s Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week, recognized for his clutch playmaking, versatility, and commitment across multiple sports.
One of Hugh’s standout moments this season came in the matchup against Regis, where he delivered the game-winning touchdown with just 1:30 left on the clock. He also recalled a key play against Mondovi, noting how he and teammate Reid Krizan connected for a long touchdown that shifted the momentum and put the Orioles ahead.
Hugh began playing football early, starting flag football in first grade before moving to tackle football by third grade. Since then, he’s played “kinda everywhere except line,” a testament to both his athletic range and his value as a dependable, all-around player.
Family has played a meaningful role in his journey. Hugh says he was inspired by his older brother, explaining that watching him play without much support pushed him to join the sport — and he continues to honor that connection by wearing his brother’s number on the field.
Middle school head coach Sam Goettl said Hugh’s performance stood out this season, especially in the win over Cadott. According to Goettl, “Peyton Hugh's speed, agility, and toughness was demonstrated with 2 rushing touchdowns ending in a 14-0 win against Cadott.”
In addition to football, Hugh stays active year-round by competing in wrestling, basketball, and baseball, a commitment that helps him grow as an athlete in every season. With a strong work ethic and a willingness to step into any role, Hugh continues to be a dependable presence within the Stanley-Boyd football program.
