Stanley-Boyd sophomore Kelsie Mateski is making her mark in a new sport this year, stepping into archery with determination and a positive mindset. Inspired by her sister to join, Mateski quickly found both a passion for the sport and a sense of belonging among her teammates.
Like many first-year archery athletes, she has faced challenges along the way. “A challenge I have faced this year is getting a bad score after shooting well, but I got back on track,” Mateski said.
Mateski says one of the most rewarding parts of archery has been the connections she’s made. Archery has helped her build friendships while also motivating her to push herself and improve with each competition.
“One thing I enjoy most about archery is that it has helped me make friends, and it inspired me to put in more effort,” she said.
Looking ahead, she has a clear goal in mind. “My goal this year is to shoot my personal record at the state tournament.”
Mateksi also credits her support system for helping her succeed. “My dad and my sister are my biggest supporters and always cheer me on when I shoot my best,” she added.
As she continues her first season representing the Stanley-Boyd archery program, Kelsie Mateski is already demonstrating the dedication and positivity that defines Stanley-Boyd’s student-athletes. With the 2026 Wisconsin NASP State Archery Tournament set for March 27–28, she will have the opportunity to compete on a bigger stage and continue working toward her personal best.
