This week, we shine a spotlight on Bailey Sikora, a standout senior catcher and captain of the Stanley-Boyd Orioles girls varsity softball team. Known for her exceptional skills and leadership on the field, Sikora has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to the team.
“Bailey is everything you want in a softball player and more,” says head coach Kim Goettl. “She puts in the time during and after practice to hone her skills, arriving early and often being one of the last to leave.”
Sikora's dedication to the sport has not gone unnoticed. Throughout her high school career, she has earned numerous accolades, including All-Conference Second Team honors in 10th grade, followed by All-Conference First Team and All-District Honorable Mention in 11th grade. As a testament to her hard work and talent, she has been selected to participate in the prestigious WFCSA Senior All-Star game this year.
In addition to her impressive statistics—boasting a batting average of .528 and a slugging percentage of .908—Sikora's impact on her teammates is profound. As a captain, she leads by example, putting the team first and always encouraging her fellow players. “Beyond herself she is the leader of the team. This comes with being a catcher but she has excelled as a teammate. She puts the team first, encourages everyone and helps with their technique,” Coach Goettl notes.
One of Sikora’s most impressive qualities is her ability to call pitches, a responsibility often reserved for the coaching staff. Coach Goettl firmly believes that no one is better suited for this role than Bailey, citing her high baseball IQ and deep understanding of the game. “This is something typically done by the coaching staff, but I believe there is no one better than Bailey to do that. Her IQ is so high when it comes to the game.”
