College credit on the cheap—provided that you pass the test.

That’s the promise—and the challenge—of AP courses in high school.

Speaking of which, the most recently AP test results are in for Stanley-Boyd. A ‘3’ is considered a pass. So what are the results?

That can be broken down by subject.

Starting with English language and composition, the most recent scores for Stanley Boyd show a mean score of 2.71, further broken down as 53.6 percent scoring 3 or higher. With 28 students taking the test that’s 15 scoring in the pass range for college credit.

12 students scored a ‘2’ on the test and one scored a ‘1,’

Shifting to English Literature and Composition on AP college credit, 16 out of 23 students at Stanley-Boyd made a passing grade, coming out to 69.6 percent. Of the remainder, seven scored a ‘2’ and none scored a ‘1.’

Moving from English to Statistics, just six students took the test, with four of these scoring a ‘3’ or above, the remainder scoring a ‘2.’

But while not all passed the test this year, it’s still worth the risk. College credits, don’t cost what they used to, after all.
