This week's Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week is junior golfer Carsen Woodcock, a dedicated member of the Oriole golf team who has earned recognition as a Second Team All-Cloverbelt Conference selection. Woodcock's commitment and passion for the game have helped make him a valuable player for the Orioles.
One of Woodcock's proudest moments this season came at the Lake Wissota Tournament, where he shot the best round of his career with an even-par 36. The performance showcased the hard work and dedication he has put into improving his game over the years.
Like many golfers, Woodcock says the mental toughness of the sport has been his biggest challenge. “After a rough couple holes, it can be tough to reel yourself back in but through the years I’ve gotten more patient in the game.” He added, “I’ve done this through experience and trust in my game.” Through experience and growing confidence in his abilities, Carson has learned to remain patient and trust his game when facing adversity on the course.
What Woodcock enjoys most about golf is the direct connection between effort and results. “i enjoy the sport for a couple of reasons. One of which is the reward you receive for putting in the hard work. After a good round of golf, you can thank yourself for the work you put in to be able to make a top five spot.”
Beyond competition, Woodcock values the friendships and memories he has made with his teammates and coaches, which have made his time on the golf team especially meaningful.
“I’ve made countless memories with my teammates and coaches and is a big part of why it is very enjoyable to be on the team.”
Woodcock’s father Casey first introduced him to the game in eighth grade, and from there he developed a passion for golf and continued to pursue it on his own, eventually joining the Stanley-Boyd Oriole golf team as a freshman.
When asked who his biggest supporter has been, Woodcock quickly pointed to his father. “He has come to every one of my tournaments and gives me encouragement during the rounds. He’s proud of me no matter what I post for a score.”
Head Oriole Golf Coach Devon Wenndt praised Woodcock's accomplishments this season, noting that he earned Second Team All-Conference honors in the Cloverbelt Conference. Coach Wenndt noted that he competed while dealing with a shoulder injury, demonstrating his toughness and dedication to the team.
Congratulations to Carsen Woodcock, this week's Stanley-Boyd Athlete of the Week!
