Start the year early, end the year early. With graduation now fast approaching on May 10 at 6 p.m., the upper elementary remodel at Stanley-Boyd will soon be underway, paid for with savings from Fund 46. In order to facilitate the summer remodel schedule, relocation will be necessary.
“Our summer remodel is coming up on us very, very quickly,” superintendent Jeff Koenig informed the board at the March school board meeting. “By the time we have our next board meeting, we will already be having some internal moves take place with the classrooms.” With art class to be turned into “art on a cart” for the remainder of the year, moves for the remodel will start on April 22, divided into groups.
“April 22 is the day we’re going to have a lot of people relocate throughout the building,” Koenig said of preparations for site work. Following the movement of people the rooms will be cleared out, the district moving to salvage items from each room.
“April 25 we’ll have more people moving and April 29 is the last day to have that area cleared out,” Koenig said. “We’re going to work on that area for about a week before we turn it over to the construction company.”
Included in site preparation will be asbestos abatement, carried out on weekends and with filtered air.
“No one’s at risk, but that is going to be taking place,” Koenig said of abatement. “Del Construction will take the space on May 6 and they’ll start doing the heavy demo work.” All told, elementary classes will spend two weeks in alternative sites before school ends.
The next school board meeting is April 29.
