UW-Direct Admit Program offered to Stanley-Boyd juniors

Pilot program would seek students for college admission offers, requires opt-in

Are you a high school junior at Stanley-Boyd, or know someone who is?

If so, we’ve got news. A new initiative with the Universities of Wisconsin will seek high school students out for college, offering direct admission and taking the work out of college admissions.

Beginning with the Class of 2025 a new program is available, in which students who opt in this spring (their junior year) can have colleges seek them out, rather than the other way around. To qualify for Direct Admit, a student must first be enrolled in a participating high school and on track to complete the following:

4 units of English

3 units of approved math

3 units of social science,

3 units of natural science, and

4 additional academic units

Meet the requirements, and you can receive an admission offer via Direct Admit. No fee or cost is needed to opt into the program, while the deadline to do so is June 3, 2024.

Once a junior opts in, that student’s data is shared with schools in the University of Wisconsin system for a streamlined acceptance process. The program looks primarily at student grades rather than tests like the ACT or SAT, though these might still be needed for scholarships or course placement.

Other information shared with the UW System through Direct Admit includes things like high school and district information, student name, WISEid, high school student ID, graduation year, physical address, school email address, GPA, legal sex, and race/ethnicity.

Federal guidelines require the collection of race/ethnicity information, but this is used in bulk form for federal reporting, not as a factor in the Direct Admit Program,

Upon review, Direct Admit  will then seek out those students it thinks are a good fit at a particular school, with students required to complete a Direct Admit form to claim their admission offers. Students in Direct Admit program must still complete their senior year requirements and graduate in order to retain their admission offers through the program.

With that said, the deadline to opt-in for Direct Admit is coming soon on June 3.
